Top 10 Endangered Animals

For some species, time on planet Earth is running out and they are quickly moving towards extinction. Human beings are the greatest threat to the survival of top endangered animals with poaching, habitat destruction and the effects of climate change. In this article you’ll read about those Endangered Animals are on the verge of Extinction, They are facing some serious problems about their survival.

There are so many endangered species that are left in such a few numbers in this world, that our next generation may not be able to see them ever if nothing is done for their conservation. It is our duty make them feel comfortable and provide and enough space here as they are also very useful part of our planet.

Top 10 Endangered Animals List is as below:

    1.  Amur Leopard

    2.    Siberian Tiger

    3.  Asian Rhinoceros

    4.  Giant Panda

    5.  African Wild Dog

    6. Red Wolf

    7. Golden Lion Tamarin

    8.  Iberian Lynx

    9. California Condor

    10. Philippine Eagle

1.) Amur Leopard

Amur Leopard

The Amur leopard is adapted to the cool climate by having thick fur which grows up to 7.5 cm long in winter. The Amur leopard's rosettes are widely spaced and larger than those seen on other leopards. Males generally weigh 32-48 kg, but can weigh up to 75 kg. purely carnivores, Amur leopards eat deer, boar, and rodents. The Amur leopard is arguably one of the most endangered species on the planet, with about 30 individuals estimated to be living in the wild. With only around 100 individuals left in the world, Amur leopards are critically endangered. Once found throughout China, Russia, and Korea, populations have been decimated by habitat loss and poaching. With soft, dense fur, Amur leopards have been poached to the brink of extinction for their gorgeous coats. It is counted in The Critically Endangered Animal of Amur

The Amur leopard is threatened by poaching, poaching of prey species, habitat loss and deforestation or exploitation of forests. Due to the small number of reproducing Amur leopards in the wild, the gene pool is so reduced that the population is at risk from inbreeding depression this entire thing makes him in Top 10 Endangered Animals.

Status: Critically Endangered

How many left in the World: 100 or less

2.) Siberian Tiger

Siberian tiger

The Siberian tiger is a family of the Panthera Tigris subspecies that is native to the Russian Far East, Northeast China, and possibly North Korea, also known as Siberia’s Most Endangered Species. It once ranged throughout the Korean Peninsula, north China, and eastern Mongolia. The Siberian tiger is genetically close to the extinct Caspian Tiger. Siberian tigers are extremely strong fighters. Only one animal of the taiga can compare to this tiger in strength that is a brown bear, but Siberian Tiger is more intelligent and technically stronger than bear. The latest census shows a marked increase in the overall population of Siberian tigers as against the 2005 census. The current census says that there are only 480 to 540 Siberian tigers inhabiting the wild habitat and that is why it is one of the most endangered animals—but the good sign is, due to effort of different wildlife organizations, their population has increases 15 percent over the past ten years.

Siberian tigers differ from Royal Bengal Tiger (which was also one of the Endangered Animals  in India earlier) because they have fewer, paler stripes, and they also have manes. The mane, in addition to their thick fur, helps keep them warm.  Tigers also hunt smaller animals like rabbits, pikas, and fish. Siberian tigers are considered endangered by IUCN's Red List. One cause of their dwindling population is loss of habitat due to deforestation. In addition, Siberian tigers are poached, or illegally hunted, for their fur and for body parts that are used for traditional medicines, that makes him in the list of top 10 endangered animals.

Status: Critically Endangered

How many left in the World: about 540

3.) Asian Rhinoceros

Asian Rhinoceros

This is one of the Top 10 Endangered Animals, rhino is probably the rarest large mammal species in the world. Also known as the lesser one-horned rhino, the species historically roamed from north-eastern India through Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Today, there are just 63 Javan rhinos left in the world. Roaming the tropical and subtropical forests and wet grasslands, Asian Rhinoceros have declined dramatically in numbers since they have had to contend with hunting and habitat loss. Now all three species of Asian rhino – Indian, Sumatran and Javan – are either or critically endangered, as are their two African relatives which number only a few thousand. It comes under Top Endangered Animals of India.

The Indian rhino, single-horned and the largest of the three lived in river valleys across Northern India from Pakistan to Assam in the East, in Bhutan and Nepal. Now its population of 2, 400 animals are restricted to small areas along the border in India, Bhutan and Nepal.

Status: Javan and Sumatran – Critically Endangered Species, Indian- Endangered Animal from India

How many left in the world: Indian- 2,400, Javan- 60, Sumatran- 250-400

4.) Giant Panda

Giant Panda

Loved by people all over the world, the Giant Panda has come to symbolize all endangered animals species and our efforts to save them. But despite huge international campaigns to conserve this bear’s natural environment and increase its numbers, the future is still uncertain for the giant panda, mainly due to the destruction of its bamboo forest habitat. Giant pandas first became endangered in 1990 due to excessive poaching in the 80s and deforestation, depleting their bamboo food source. It is also in the Endangered Animals list of 2020

A fickle species, bamboo can grow extensively in mountainous or barren lands, but then dies in the winter. This forces giant pandas in those areas to relocate for their food. These Pandas can be only found in the, Mountainous regions of central China. Weighing upto 160 kg, an adult Giant Panda needs to eat its way through 12-38 kg of bamboo a day.

Status: Endangered Species of Asia

How many left in the world: About 1,000

5.) African Wild Dog

African Wild dog

African wild dog, also called Cape hunting dog, African hunting dog, or hyena dog, wild African carnivore that differs from the rest of the members of the dog family in having only four toes on each foot. Its coat is short, sparse, and irregularly blotched with yellow, black, and white. Hundreds of thousands of these animals once roamed in packs right across the wooded savannahs of Southern Africa. But they are suffered dreadfully as human activity has cut ever deeper into their territory, forcing them into conflict with lions. There are barely 5000 dogs are left in the whole of Africa. This dog is one of the most Endangered Animals lists of Africa.

All across Africa, wooded savannah has given way to grazing land, edging out carnivores and their prey. This is the major reason for the drop in the wild dog numbers, but other factors have also greatly accelerated this decline.

Status: Endangered Species

How many left in the world: 3,000 – 5,000 dogs in about 600 packs

6.) Red Wolf

Red Wolf

Red wolves once range throughout the Southeastern United States, from the Atlantic coast to central Texas, and from the Gulf Coast to central Missouri and southern Illinois. In the first two decades of the 20th century, red wolves were completely eliminated from most of the eastern part of their range and by 1980 they were declared exterminated in the wild. Today, only about 20 red wolves roam their native habitats in eastern North Carolina as a nonessential experimental population (NEP), and approximately 245 red wolves are maintained in 43 captive breeding facilities throughout the United States. It was also in the list of Endangered Animals of 2020

One of the main resource for the Red Wolf’s decline is that, like many other carnivores, it was believed to be a threat to livestock. After European settlers arrived in North America, the red wolf was hunted mercilessly and killed in great numbers.

Status: Endangered Species

How many left in the world: About 265

7.) Golden Lion Tamarin

Golden lion tamarin

Endangered animals are needed extra care of their habitat and life, like golden lion tamarind, about the size of a squirrel, with red golden fur and a striking lion like mane, the golden lion Tamarin is found in only one region on the world, the Atlantic coastal rainforest of Brazil. It is one of the most attractive and rarest monkeys – so rare that, 30 year ago the species was in danger of becoming extinct. It was captured illegally and its natural habitat was massively destroyed. Since then, there have been successful efforts around the world to give the golden lion Tamarin a much safer future, because of its small size, this monkey is small enough to get trapped in nesting boxes and nets installed by poachers.

The golden lion tamarin may be the most beautiful of the four lion tamarin species. Its abundant golden hair frames a charismatic black face and covers its small body and tail. Despite their name, these rare primates have far more in common with their monkey relatives than any feline. This monkey is also counted in the Top 10 Endangered Animals

Status: Endangered Species

How many left in the world: more than 1,000

8.) Iberian Lynx

iberian lynx

The Iberian lynx is heavily spotted and weighs about half as much as the Eurasian species, with long legs and a very short tail with a black tip. Its coat is tawny with dark spots and it bears a characteristic "beard" around its face and prominent black ear tufts, also in the list of endangered animals.  The Iberian lynx mostly eats rabbits, unlike the European lynx. Although they are as big as a large dog and have sharp claws and teeth, they are not a threat to humans. The Iberian lynx has been brought to the brink of extinction because of a combination of threats that include the radical decrease of rabbits, the lynx's principal prey a serious reduction in habitat being caught in snares set for rabbits accidental deaths caused by speeding vehicles on the expanding road network, these habitat conditions put him in a list of top 10 endangered animals.

Having managed to coexist with its human neighbours, the Iberian Lynx survived in reasonable numbers until the beginning of the 20th century. It had plenty of suitable habitats and was largely tolerated by farmers because it kept numbers of rabbits, its main prey, below pest proportions.

Status: Endangered Species

How many left in the world:  400 or more

9.) California Condor

California Condor

The California condor is the largest flying bird in North America. Its wings may stretch nearly 10 feet from tip to tip. When in flight, this huge bird glides on air currents to soar as high as a dizzying 15,000 feet. The mighty California condor has to reach the grand age of ten years before it can breed in the wild, and this naturally slow reproductive rate is a major reason why the species almost died out in 1980s. Human activities must take a share of the blame too, and it remains to be seen whether here is still room for both mankind and bird in the wildernesses of the American Pacific coast. California Condors are tagged so that conservationists can track them. It is in danger to be extinct and is a one of the Top Endangered Species in the world.

The Condor Recovery Program was established in 1975 and today coordinates the work of all the agencies involved in condor conservation. Captive breeding takes place at San Diego Wild Animal Park, Los Angeles and Oregon zoos and the World Center for Birds and Prey in Boise, Idaho.

Status: Endangered Animal

How many left in the world: about 160-180

10.) Philippine Eagle

Philippine Eagle

Fewer than 250 Philippine Eagle survives in the wild. These huge raptors are endangered by habitat loss, hunting, trapping for the zoo trade and military activity. They live in rainforests on just four of the 7,000 islands in the Philippines archipelago. Widespread deforestation has already destroyed nearly all of the lowland rainforest. Most remaining eagles survive in remote mountain forests above 1,300m (4,265ft).

Among the rarest and most powerful birds in the world, it has been declared the Philippine national bird. It is critically endangered, mainly due to massive loss of habitat resulting from deforestation in most of its range. Also in the top 10 Endangered species

Status: Endangered Species

How many left in the world: Fewer than 250
